[Opinions] Lancel?
The post about Lance and ensuing comments about Lancelot got me thinking of Lancel. It's not in the database, but it was used by George R. R. Martin in "A Song of Ice and Fire". Style-wise, I see Lancel as halfway between Lance and Lancelot-- not too modern-sounding, but not unusable/GPish either. WDYT? Combos? I'm imagining things like Lancel William, Lancel Orpheus, Lancel Dorian, Lancel Julius, Lancel Morgan, Lancel Roland, or Lancel Tristan...
And while we're on this topic, what do you think of Galad as a full name or a nickname for Galahad?

Lancel looks rather medicinal, I'm afraid. And I've never warmed up to Lance. Lancelot is a one-owner name, so no.
The whole LotR scene would mean that people hearing Galad for the first time would guess it was female and wait for the -riel, instead of guessing it was male and waiting for the -ha-. Very much older people might even remember Gladys!

True enough on Galad :P
I like Lancel. In fact, I like it a lot more than Lance (just not a fan) or Lancelot (okay for legends, not on a modern person). Lance can be a nickname if the bearer wishes it to be so.
On the other hand, I think Galahad is fine as a full name. It's a legendary name (which I like) but not as obvious or well-known as Lancelot. Galad is better as a nickname; on its own it makes me think of Galadriel for some reason.

Oh, I didn't think of Galadriel. That's a good point.
Lancel William and Lancel Roland sound nice together. I've always liked Lancelot, but wouldn't use it for a child. I could see using Lancel. It has a nice ring to it. On another note, what is GP?
