Royal Family (Sister and brother-in-law to the
Queen)
The last five years have been the most peaceful of
Ari's adult life. Though still active in diplomacy, she has given up active spying for good. Her position as a trainer in the army has allowed her and
Nicholas both to spend much more time with their children as well as the children of
Ari's siblings.
Ari found she enjoyed the work, training the young recruits in the arts of disguise and observation, concealment and manipulation. She has several very promising new recruits, not the least of which is her young niece
Niobe.
Ari had not thought such a loud and "look at me" girl would make a good spy, but she seems to share
Ari's uncanny powers of observation and eavesdropping and getting information, it seems specifically because people don't expect someone like her to listen or remember.
Ari is working on convincing
Hermione that
Niobe should join the recruits when she is fifteen and of age.
The only real excitement in the family was over
Nerissa's marriage.
Ione's involvement was no shock to
Ari and
Nicholas, as
Nerissa and
Ione had been rather close since childhood. Though they couldn't approve of her running away like that, both could understand why she did it.
Alexandra's temperament, though she has mellowed, is still far from what one would call understanding. They were also secretly proud of
Ione for supporting her cousin when she needed it, though they wished
Nerissa had come to them or
Minnie or
Hermione instead of running off. Still, everyone in the family likes
Thomas, except
Alexandra. Not long after the whole uproar,
Ione herself announced she was going to be married.
Ari and
Nicholas had been introducing her to young men since she came of age at fifteen, but
Ione had chosen a man neither of them knew. He was a young healer named
Arthur who she met at the College of Mages, which she began attending with her cousin
Athena some years ago. The two were actually introduced by
Athena, who had met him and thought him a good fit for her cousin. Powefully magical but gentle as a mother with any patient, his kind heart and charming nature won
Ione quickly. He is also a very handsome young man with thick auburn hair and bright blue eyes.
Ari and
Nicholas heartily approved, and
Ione's wedding was spared no expense; though not as elaborate as her cousin
Chloe's wedding, it was still everything she and
Arthur both had dreamed.
Not long before the wedding,
Marius himself made an annoucement, that he too was betrothed! This was a great surprise to
Ari and
Nicholas, who had not even known that
Marius had begun courting.
Marius has always been one to reveal things in his own time, once he deems it important that people know, so they were not offended. His fiancee is a young woman named
Electra, a young horse trainer in the royal stables and friend of his older sister and cousins.
Marius, as a student at the military academy, began talking about the training of war horses with her, and the two found out they had a great deal in common. The two fell in love, and
Marius recently approached her parents for permission to propose. It was readily granted (they were horse breeders and couldn't believe their daughter had caught the attention of a royal!), and as soon as
Electra accepted
Marius approached his parents. Once they met
Electra their consent was readily given as well.
Electra is a very bright girl, well-mannered but sincere, and obviously has deep feelings for their son. They cannot call her a beauty, though she does have nice black hair and lovely brown eyes, but
Marius thinks she is quite pretty.
The marriage of their daughter and betrothal of their son has been bittersweet for
Ari and
Nicholas, but they take solace in the fact that they still have several children who are still years from marriage and careers. All of the younger ones are now enrolled in
Hermione's school, where they all do well.
Olivia already shows promise as a diplomat, and
Ari and
Nicholas secretly both agree she is the loveliest of their daughters. While
Ione and
Callista are both beutiful girls, there is something almost poetic about
Olivia's face with her almost-black hair and her large, vividly violet eyes. They have already been approached by parents of young noble boys, hinting at the possibility of a marriage arrangement, but
Ari and
Nicholas have refused to discuss it.
Ari and
Nicholas feel fortunate
Minnie has not insisted their children make political matches, and they intend to allow
Olivia to choose her own spouse for love as her older brother and sister have.
Callista is a general favorite among the cousins around her age, constantly involved in schemes that often end up with them all in trouble. Since she never developed magical ability, she has declared her intention to become a teacher at her Aunt
Hermione's school, an ambition
Ari and
Nicholas heartily support for their charismatic, brainy daughter. She is beginning to turn into a beauty, dark and blue-eyed, and has recently grown so tall it is almost improper in a girl of ten. She is nearly as tall as
Olivia, who is no short girl for her age either.
Nicholas and
Ari both agree she gets it from her grandfathers, both of whom are quite tall.
Remus and she are very close, almost like twins, and both look quite alike but for
Remus's eyes. He and
Olivia are also close, and the two act very much alike.
Remus is excelling at his studies, and has expressed interest in diplomacy.
Ari is glad two of her chidlren are interested in following her trade. Little
Galen is a ball of energy, the spitting image of his father, more so than any other child, and sometimes causes disruptions. He is slightly spoiled, being the youngest of a brood of adoring siblings, but he is also very sweet and almost always in a good mood. Even
Arista, whom
Ari unfortunately cannot bring herself to care for as much as her other nieces and nephews, is much less like her mother when around him.
