Message: "Baptisia" - Behind the Name

My Grandma brought me a False Indigo today (which is now planted nicely in front of my house!), and we discovered it's actually called "Baptisia" (specifically, Baptisia australis). I thought that seemed like it would make a nice name, and it's also a really pretty bushy flowering thing (http://www.bgperennials.com/images/Baptisia%20False%20IndigoBlue.jpg). See?

So anyway, what do you think of Baptisia as a name? Any combo ideas?

I came up with some. I like a few of these, but none seem quite perfect:

Bap-tee-see-ah or Bap-ti/tee-sha? Like the former, dislike the latter. Either way, Baptisia Eleanor, Baptisia Helena, Baptisia Juliet and Baptisia Vivienne all have a certain grace to them. It's a pretty plant but I must agree that I thought of religious connotations first.

Not sure, probably either depending on what language you're saying it in. I guess since it's a Latin plant name it should be bap-tee-see-a. But I'm saying bap-tee-zha, like in English.

I don't like the "bap" part of Baptisia, because of the association with rolls and/or breasts. That kind of puts me off.

Out of the combos you have I think Baptisia Miriam and Baptisia France sound nice.

It really does sound super Catholic-y as other people have mentioned, haha. I sort of like it, but the bap sound at the beginning really doesn't appeal to me. It sounds sort of silly and makes me giggle. That said Baptisia Vivienne is breathtaking.

It is a lovely sound and quite a nice plant so I think it could work beautifully!

Baptisia Honorine is great! Or maybe I'd like Baptisia Honor or Baptisia Honora better. I also almost put Baptisia Olivette and Baptisia Magdelene on my list. I'm definitely feeling Baptisia Magdalene this morning. Really do like it. Thanks!

It sounds like a really Catholic name to me- like Consuelo, Dolores, Mercedes. Not that you would have to be Catholic to use it, but it seems like it has religious roots like those names I mentioned.

It does! I was finding it hard to think of it as a flower and not as a Catholic-y name while making combos.
