They've survived to the age of 60 and they're clearly still talking to each other and to their relatives, so it must have worked just fine for them.
I don't enjoy any of the names separately, and though Alvin and Calvin rhyme for me, Melvin doesn't. I've only ever met a Calvin.
I actually wish people would just give their twins, triplets etc the names they like best, without trying to squash them into the same kind of box. Why would Alvin, Calvin and Melvin seem more like brothers than, say, Alan, Charles and Michael?
ETA: I've got a colleague named Malvin. Can't decide if Alvin, Calvin and Malvin makes the set better or worse!
