Message: "Caecilia?" - Behind the Name

I was looking through my Latin book and came across the name Caecilia. It looks really cool but I don't know how to pronounce it... It looks like it should be Kay-CEE-lee-uh but I also want to pronounce it like Cecilia. How would you pronounce it?

In classical Latin, kye-kee-lee-a. As you know, there was a difference between syllable length and syllable stress, but you'd be safe with kye-KEE-lee-a.

In German, it'd be tseh-TSEE-lya, but that's another story.

If I remember correctly, "ae" in Latin is pronounced like the long "I" sound (sounds like the word eye).

My first thought when I looked at it was say-see-lia, but I can see how it would be kay-cee-lia.

kie-KEE-li-ah in Classical Latin, otherwise like Cecilia. Compare with the classical and modern pronunciations of Caesar.

I would say it like "say-SEE-lia". Though I'm pretty sure it's said like regular Cecilia....
