Help[Opinions] Chimaera?
I'm getting my kitten in a couple days and still haven't come up with a name... but I was just thinking, I have loved the name Chimaera for about 4 years now and I know I can't use it on a human. but for a cat I think it could work. I also like the name Kasey but I can't really use it because I work with someone named Kasey and so it would be weird. so i was thinking I can use either a K name or a C name and NN her Kasey. I could spell Chimaera with a K and use a C name and the I can have both names. ir vice versa. my only problam is i can't come up with a goo KC combo... can you think of any?

I like it. It would never work in a million years on a person, but because of the feline element to the mythological creature (a lion(ess) no less) I really think it suits a cat. It'll be hilariously grandiose and cute on a little fluffball kitten and suit her as she grows up to be an independent, smartass cat (because all cats are independent smartasses, haha). It's regal and grandiose and at the same time mythological and fierce and pretty perfect in my view (or do I mean purrfect? Oh, I'm lame!).
Interestingly, I thought of a genetic Chimera / chimerism pretty soon after hearing it, and wikipedia-ed it to check I was thinking of the right thing, and Chimera means 'she-goat', apparently. It can also mean as a word, apparently, "an impossible or foolish fantasy, hard to believe."... interesting. I don't think many people will think of chimerism after meeting your kitty, it's just that it's a term I've heard a lot recently for some weird reason. And the meaning 'impossible fantasy' really suits a cat.
Nonetheless, I like it. I prefer the spelling Chimera to Chimaera because apparently the original is Khimaira (which I don't like) and so these translations/transliterations are ultimately the same and equally as valid. Chimera looks cleaner, while Chimaera looks more high-fantasy. Kasey is okay, I know a feline Casey, but I don't think it'd necessarily work as a nn for Chimaera... but you have a wealth of other nicknames you could make from the name. If you're set on Kasey, Casey would make more sense and I guess you could make it work. It just doesn't have that much in common with the full name.
BTW, if she's going to grow up to be an outdoor kitty, how awesome are you going to look standing by your door bellowing 'CHIMAERA! COME HERE KITTY, COME ON! CHIMAEEEERRAAA!' of an evening or when you want her home. Seriously awesome is the answer. I'm not kidding in the slightest. (I'm an owner of three spoilt outdoor kitties. It shows, haha.) Or at the vet, when the vet calls for a 'Chimaera (surname)'... oooh, I'm a fan, I think :D

haha thanks! I am definetly using this name now! But she will be an indoor kitty (my mom said if she becomes an outdoor kitty she will have to go because we already have an outdoor cat and she does'nt like that idea). The reason I have a hard time with names is because i love when the Vets are confused on the name. it makes it more fun :)

Hm, that's kind of cool. Especially for a kitten who thinks she's fierce! (this is for a girl, right?)
Anyway, I don't think you should spell Chimaera with a K. Maybe use Chimaera as the middle name and use a K fn? Kore Chimaera, Kita Chimaera, Kira Chimaera, Kerewin Chimaera, Kassia Chimaera? Or just use Casey as the nn.

Yep its a girl. And I might just use Casey as the middle name... thats a good idea
