[Opinions] Savannah?
I really like the name Savannah I think it's so beautiful and classic. I know it's getting popular, but I like it too much to really care. I wouldn't use it unless I have three daughters or more. What I'm wanting to know is what do you think of when you hear Savannah. I'm wanting a nn and I don't like any that go with the name it's self. I know I don't have to use a nn, but I have nn's for all my other names and I would feel bad not giving her one either. So I thought I might use one that would match the name. Like I know that there is a Savannah, Georgia. So even anything that you can think of thats associated with Georgia.
Oh by the way what do you think of the nn Izzy for Tristan. I got it from the i s, which is said the same way in both. I love that nn and this is the closest name I like that I could use it for. Ok that's all. Thanks!

I rather like it, but then it's not popular where I live. I feel very strongly about overuse, so I don't think I'd use it if I were in the States.
I don't think of Savannah, Georgia, because I've never been there and I know nothing about it, aside from what I've read in Gone with the Wind. (I sound very ignorant here, lol.)
I do think of the open grassland, which is OK ... there are worse things to think of!

My niece's name is Savanna so I initially think of her when I hear the name. She's five and a half years old and has blonde hair and blue eyes. She is both a tom boy and likes princess stuff. I also think of Georgia when I hear the name.
My niece's full name is Savanna Ramona Rose. Her two middle names are her two grandmother's names. Friends and family call her either Savanna, Vanna, or Vanna boo (cutesy, huh?). I know you said you didn't like the nickname Vanna so my only other suggestion is to pick a middle name to call her by as a nickname. I'll try to rack my brain for some other nicknames but right now I'm drawing a blank. I do think it's a sweet name and Savanna has yet to be teased about her name.

Thanks for that, it's nice to know about someone with the name. Yeah I've thought of the middle name thing, I just thought I'd ask here and see if I found one to go with it anyway. This really helped, thanks!

Peaches, palm trees, oceans, fields, Atlanta, sunny.
I love the name Savannah. I know the meaning of the word is kinda weird for a nickname, but I like the sound of Savvy as an nn for Savannah.
Don't really know about Izzy for Tristan, but I guess it's better than Tris or Stan (I have no idea what nn's are used for Tristan).

What I think of when I hear of someone called Savannah:
Middle class American mediocre modest good taste, white, born in the 1990s; Southern-chic (the Georgia association for me doesn't bring a place to mind. It just "sounds Southern styled")
What I think of when I hear the word "savanna" - a grassland
I like the name.

I'm not too fond of Savannah, but I can understand it's appeal. And Georgia is the first thing I think of when I hear Savannah, but that's far from a bad thing. :) It's definitely a lovely, very refined, old city, so a Savannah would have a great association with her name.
As for the nickname Izzy for Tristan, I'm going to say no for two reasons: 1) I'm of the opinion that Tristan is a male name and even if you were using Tristan for a male, the nickname Izzy is too feminine. 2) The nickname Izzy is too reminiscent of the Tristan and Isolde mythology. To me, it would be like naming your child Juliet, but calling her Romy (reminiscent of Romeo).

I don't see how Savannah is classic. It's trendy, and it's coming to the end of its run (God willing). Personally, I'd much rather see Sahara, Suzannah, or Saffron.

I like the idea of Izzy for Tristan. I also like Tan as a nickname for Tristan, but I don't really like Tristan overall. I'd use Izzy as a nickname for Isaac or Isidore, and Tan for Tancred.

I guess classic was the wrong word, but to me I just thinks it's so pretty, and pretty is classic to me. I didn't mean it was a classic. And I've heard of all those nn's before, I was looking more for associations. Like what you think of when you hear Savannah. But thanks for trying anyway.
Well, I'm not sure what you mean by associations--especially since I've been to neither Savannah nor a savannah. And what I think of when I hear the name is a four year old pretty-pretty-princess type who screams for what she wants, so I don't think that helps.
If you could explain more thoroughly what you mean, I'd be happy to try and help you out.

When I hear Savannah, I think of the African prairie. That's what Savannah is. Savannah is not a classic, it's a trendy place name that people suddenly decided was cute. I LOVE Susannah / Susanna, though.

Izzy as a nickname for Tristan is too much of a stretch, I think. What about Isidore / Isadore nn Izzy?
