[Opinions] Tancred
I saw Tancred somewhere recently and it really caught my attention. It has a pleasant sound and a nice meaning. It makes me think of armor. It feels very heavy, but it has a gentleness and underlying elegance to it. Anyway, it has been on my mind all day and I wondered what others thought of it?Do you like any of these combos?
Tancred Alasdair
Tancred Augustine
Tancred Benjamin
Tancred Colin
Tancred Delwyn
Tancred Diether (Dieter)
Tancred Eoghan
Tancred Everard
Tancred Galien
Tancred Gwenith ("wheat")
Tancred Julian
Tancred Stephen
Tancred William

It reminds me of something......associated with the body. Like an organ or an enzyme, something like that. I don't know. I think it's unattractive and only barely seems like a name at all. Not my thing!

It just looks and sounds really ugly to me, sorry

I like a few of the middle names; it's the Tancred part that I'm not at all wild about...

Ah, Tancred is so rusty and Germanic! I really like it.Tancred Benjamin, Tancred Julian, Tancred Stephen, and Tancred William appeal to me.

I'm kind of on this kick where I'm loving names the sound knightly. This sounds knightly so needless to say, I love it. Tancred William and Tancred Delwyn especially.

I love Tancred! It's so lumpy and loveable. It's a bit awkward, but that is part of its charm. Did you ever play Final Fantasy IX? If you did, you know that big clumsy knight character, I can't recall his name offhand, but he was utterly devoted to protecting the princess and everyone thought he was a big dummy and a has-been? That's the image of get of Tancred. Huge heart, iron-clad honour, and a bit of a doofus. So adorable.I like these combos:Tancred Augustine
Tancred Everard
Tancred Julian
Tancred Stephen (this might be my favourite)I also like the idea of Tancred Llewellyn! Pretty fanciful though.

That's the one I haven't played!Out of all of them.Oh Tancred Llewellyn is great, but I agree, a bit fanciful.

All I see is tankard and only think of ale and drunken knights unfortunately. As for combos I do think these work well:Tancred Alasdair
Tancred Benjamin
Tancred William

Ahaha, I don't know how I didn't think "tankard!" It made me think pancreas when I first saw it for some reason.Believe it or not, I actually like the tankard image for my hypothetical Tancred. He seems like the sort of warrior who would spend a jolly night in a tavern. :)

Well, I think it would make a great name for a character.

How are you pronouncing it?tan-cred or tang-cred? I've always been told the latter is the correct one.Either way, though, I love the name and it's been a favorite for years. I'd use it in a heartbeat but I doubt my husband would let me. Of your combos I like:
Tancred William
Tancred Everard
Tancred Colin

TANG-kridLike it says in the link. Before I saw that I was saying it more like TAN-krid, but I like tang-krid better.I'm not sure how usable I think it is, but it would be awesome to see in real life!

I think it's 100% usable. At least in the areas I've lived in.Unfortunately I will never, ever sell my husband on it - anymore than he's going to sell me on Lily.

I can certainly see the appeal of Tancred, but I'm going to have to repeat it to myself and play around with combos to completely warm up to it, I think. Though, I have to tell you that Tancred Diether is amazing! :D

There's a Tancred in one of my favourite book series. :) He's Tancred Christoffer and his twin sister is Lisa Gabriella, last name Paladin. I like it a lot.I like these:
Tancred Alasdair
Tancred Benjamin
Tancred Everard
Tancred Julian
Tancred Stephen

It sounds sort of goopy or mushy or something, and yet still has a weird gravely feel, like wet cement. So I don't really care for it, my favorite combinations are probably Tancred Benjamin and Tancred Alasdair.

I've never heard it before. When I saw your heading, several words popped into my mind. They were "tanker", "acrid", "canker", and "rancid." So, I'm afraid that I don't share your opinion, and I'm not a fan.
