I'm realy loving Ptolemy at the moment, but i'm wondering if its too pretencious.
I love the nickname Tolly.
Do you think Ptolemy is overly pretencious? I do like really formal, historical names so I know its going to raise a few eyebrows.
Also, is it too close sounding to Theodore? Do Tolly and Teddy sound too matchy for brothers? The full sibling set would possibly be Theodore "Teddy" (or Theo by my fiance) Daphne and Ptolemy.

It is a bit fancy, but it's loads of fun and I like it. And Tolly is very cuddly and user-friendly. And I don't really think it's any more pretentious, when you think about it, than calling your kid Julius or Solomon or Maximilian or Alexander - just more unusual. Pretentious = calling your kid Messiah.

I think it has a certain pretentiousness (because I'm sure you will constantly be explaining who Ptolomey was/how to say it) but I still like it. It has a warm, wacky-with-a-heart-of-gold sound and appearance.
I think it goes well with Theodore and Daphne, and Tolly and Teddy aren't too similar. Especially if Teddy will sometimes/often be Theo.

I love Ptolemy! It is on my PNL and has been for years and I would also nn any potential Ptolemy as "Tolly". I sometimes play around with it in the mn position but it is a tad bit pretentious for my personal tastes. That being said, I'd love to meet one in real life and I feel like it is pretentious in a different way to how 'hipster' names are pretentious. Like I would assume that the parents of Ptolemy were highly educated rather than just trying to seem that way, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I think it sounds great with Theodore and Daphne and I don't think Tolly and Theo or Tolly and Teddy are too close. It would be a very nice sounding little sibset :-)

I like it, and love Tolly as the nn too. I think it would sound cute on a boy, but imagining it on an adult does seem a tad pretentious. But not so much that I'd avoid using it. And also if the guy didn't act stuck-up, that would help. :)

I really, really like Ptolemy. I don't think it sounds pretentious, but it certainly looks it.

When someone signature looks the same as the message text it always looks as though it's meant to be part of their post and can be confusing. I always start reading your signature too and then have to stop and say, oh wait, that's your signature. You could make it italicized or smaller or another color or center it to differentiate it.

Yup, Ptolemy is too pretentious. That said, it's plenty of fun! Great for an imaginary child, lol. Teddy and Tolly are close and cute--so doable if you go in for that kind of cuteness (I think it's fine, some people can't stand it). Teddy, Daphne, and Tolly does sound very rosy-cheeked and cutesy and adorable...but all in all it's a bit much.
