[Opinions] Sergeant
At the grocery store the other day, I saw a mother yelling at her son, Sarge. Being interested in names, I asked if that was a nickname. She replied yes, his given name is Sergeant. I've never heard that before. Have any of you? Do you like it?

eh... I don't really like it but it's not the worst name ever. I've met a Souljah (Soldier) and that was miserable. This is OK at least.

I love it, actually...

I know a dog named Sergeant. =x I don't think it makes a good given name.

No, I haven't! That's just off the walls. I mean, I like a few 'odd' names, but Sergeant?! No way!

I'd be ok if it was Sargentas in, for John Singer Sargent. His work is just so beautiful.

TrueI've known people with that as their last name.

BlechI think it's really tacky sounding to name your son a military rank.

Nope. Sounds like a dog name.

Maria Shriver's father was Sargent Shriver. Apparently he was also known as Sarge. Spelled Sargent, it's more of a surname-as-first-name than a word-name-as-first-name. I prefer the look of Sargent to Sergeant, at least as a first name. Sergeant and Colonel just have such weird, non-intuitive spellings.Oh, and I think Sargent nn Sarge is totally adorable. Guilty pleasure all the way, but oh...I'm glad you brought it up.
