[Opinions] Payne.
I encountered Payne today, a 7 year old boy. I don't know if it's a family surname or just something the parents liked. It's definitely not my cup of tea.

I know a teen with the name
I know a boy named Payne, he's probably around 16. Surely it's a family surname, but still, why not put it in the middle name slot? It's still by far better than Cutter.
The first things I actually thought:
Like Payne from FFX-2? (Oh wait, it's Paine, anyway)
Like that game, Max Payne?
But then I tied it to "windowpane" and "paint" rather than the obvious pain, for some reason, and I actually think it has a neat artsy feel to it.
But because of the obvious homonym, I wouldn't recommend anyone use it as a fn!

There used to be a character named Payne on the tv show Designing Women in the 80's. His mother jokingly said it was because she was in labor with him so long & that is all she could think of.
I didn't like the name then & still don't.

It's awful, I mean it sounds exactly like the word "pain". Horrible :S
Always is reminiscent of window panes for me.
If it were a surname, it should have been used in the middle. I know people have the last name Sloughter (same prn as slaughter), would people use that as a first name just to honor too?
I wouldn't want to be names something with the exact sound as the word pain.

"You're a pain!" will always be said of him, truthfully.
Yuk!
Yuk!
If it's a family name, then it's fine - isn't there a golfer called Payne Someone, Stewart or Randall or something? But I can't imagine parents picking it for its sound or meaning!
Golfer Payne Stewart. He passed away about fifteen years ago.
Wow. That's awful. What is with parents lacking common sense lately?
Darling little Payne will feel Pain when he's a teenager.
