[Opinions] Scheherazade
Never heard this name before on a person, but I've grown to really like it. Don't know if it's really usable, perhaps as a second name. WDYT? If you've heard of the story before (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheherazade), does it affect your opinion of the name?

I think the story is awesome, but the name? It's just too long and weird looking for me. I don't particularly like the sound, either.

I don't think it's useable in real life. It's just so overcomplicated in both spelling and pronounciation and I think it would be really annoying having to spell it out to everyone. Even if it wasn't so complicated, I don't really like it.I've never heard that story.

My husband has a cousin named Scheherazade. True! but she's usually called Sherry.

It's pretty, but it's much better suited as a middle name because of spelling and pronunciation issues.

It's pretty, though the story association might be kind of strong. I prefer the original form Shahrazad.

Eyeroll.Way overblown.

Scheherazade is pretty, but not my favourite version of the name and I don't know if it's really useable either. For one thing the spelling is too complicated. I think most people will know the story, and assume it's after the character. There are loads of different versions of Scheherazade in different languages: Shéhérazade, Xerezade (so cool), Szeherezada, Şeherezada, Şehrazad, Shahrazada. And of course Shahrazad / Shahrzad. I actually like them all a lot but having so many different spellings and pronunciations can be really confusing, and even in English there are multiple versions. Also, Scheherazade has this gauzy, ethereal quality which would not suit an actual person. Shahrazad is totally usable though, and lovely.

Oh and from wikipedia: Scheherazade has a sister called Dunyazad?! I like it.

It's gorgeous. It would be a fabulous middle name! - but maybe a bit long for a child to spell and manage.
I know someone called Sharazed, which I think might be a version of it.

*Swoon*Funny you mention this, right as I add it back into my 'Top names' list. It's gorgeous. I think she was a clever character, and admirable, so it would be a beautiful name. Hell, if my mom's old psychiatrist could be a professional with the name Nefertiti with such a strong connotation, why can't this? I love this name, and the nicknames it brings. One of my favorites is Hera. It would be a good middle name, but secretly I'd love to see it on someone.

I love it. I'd use it if I was feeling bold and had a partner who was on board. I figure it's shortenable to Hera, Zade "ZAHH-dee" or "ZAHHD" (depending on how you say Scheherazade) or even Scher. How cool would Scher be. Everyone would think you were a Cher addict and then you'd be all "actually it's short for Scheherazade"I have heard of the story, but it dosn't really affect my feelings on the name other than to give it literary depth.
