[Opinions] Different pronounciation for Siobhan
I am at my wits end.
I love the spelling of the name Siobhan or Sioban but I loathe the pronounciation shi-VAWN.
Do you have any other ideas how it could be said?
Or do you have ideas for similar looking names that I might like?
Thanks a lot!

Before coming to this site and seeing the pronunciation written out (and never having known a Siobhan) I thought it was "see-OBE-han." I actually like that better."No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."

No. Siobhan is "shi-VAWN." End of story. Pronouncing it any other way would be as ridiculous as pronouncing Sean "seen." Don't do it. If you truly don't like the "shi-VAWN" pronunciation, then it's time for another name entirely. I'm sorry if I'm being harsh, but I'm Irish. My niece's mn is Siobhan. I'm biased.I'm glad you like other Irish names. Sinead ("shi-NADE") is one of my all time favorites. :-)

I now, that's my problem, I don't want to pronounce it wrong. Do you have any suggestions for names with the same feeling as see-OB(H)-ahn?
That's what I thought it was prounounced like at first and I liked that. :-)

Use Siobhan as a middle name, thus you can have the look of the name on documents etc. without the everyday use as a first name. There is no other pronunciation.other choices:Aoife
Niamh
Saoirse
Mairead look to other Celtic and Gaelic choicescleome.

I love Niamh! It has been on my list for ages.
Your idea is quite good, I have never thought of that...

I wouldn't say the name any differently. I know that names can be up to individual interpretation but for me there's a right way and a wrong way to say most of them. Siobhan is one of these; I don't see it as having any room for interpretation.I know my list is going to repeat a lot of what people have already said, but other names with a similar feel might include:Siobhanin
Sinead
Slaine
Seanait
Saoirse
Saraid
Sadhbh
Seosaimhthín :-)http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~bj333/HomePage.boys.html#Other%20Irish%20Names is where I got some of these from. I don't know how reliable its information is but it's a really long list that can be fun to take a look at.

There are Siofra and Siomha but I am not sure how to pronounce them
Sinead = shi NAYD
Sian = Shan or Siana which I would quess to be Shan uh

I really like Sinead, Sian and Sine.
The first time I saw Siobhan I thought it was pronounced see-OB-(h)en.
When I found out it was pronounced shi-VAWN I was quite disappointed. I really dislike Yvonne, and that is what the pronounciation reminds me of. I'd really like something with the same feeling as see-OB(H)-ahn and similar spelling.
Thanks for Siomha, I really like that name.
