Hadn't seen it before so I had to look it up, and sorry! I think it's a boy's name. I thought it might be, because it reminds me of Hefin - and Kevin. There's a rugby player called Mefin Davies, and I found two in the births since 1984, both boys. It's so unusual though that you could probably make it unisex, if you wanted to.

I'm not sure where I originally saw it. On Namenerds it's listed as feminine, but I don't think that's where I found it. But yeah, it definitely could go either way. Interesting to hear it seems to be mostly used for boys. It's all hypothetical anyway, so doesn't really bother me.
