[Opinions] Gretel
Someone posted about Hansel and I totally agree about the Hansel and Gretel association. I could never use it. But for some reason I would swoon over a little blonde piggy tailed toddler named Gretel - even more so with a sister Heidi!
Maybe Gretel as short for Margaret?? That would be a winner!Maybe I'm crazy... Do you seem to think one is usable and the other isn't?

HahaI also love the sibset Gretel and Heidi - have done for a whileGretel is high on my list but people ALWAYS, without fail, mention Hansel and Gretel. Gretel for Margaret is cute but I prefer it on it's own

Gretel is usable, though there'd be the inevitable "Hi Gretl, where's Hansel?"
I used to know a very attractive teenage Gretel (her real name and not short for Margaret, btw) by sight - she had a Dutch van something surname, and the entire name sounded lovely. No blonde pigtails, though - dark hair in a fashionable sleek bob.
I much prefer Gretel to Greta, which I think sounds a bit harsh.

I like it, but I think it works better as a nickname.

Well I guess Gretel is more useable than Hansel but I'd much prefer Greta, almost the same but without the association. I suppose it could work as a nickname for Margaret though.

I was thinking the same thing - that while Hansel isn't really usable, Gretel totally is. I think because Gretel is similar to Gretchen & Greta that it seems more like a 'real' name. I like Greta better but I do think Gretel is totally sweet.

I prefer Greta as a nick for Margaret but Gretel also works. Defintely doesn't work as a stand alone name in my opinion
