Help[Opinions] Soraya/Saraya
I've heard of two little girls with this name, and unfortunately I don't think the mothers know about psoriasis, because that's what I think of every time I hear it!

If it weren't for me thinking of psoriasis, I would like it more. Soraya in particular makes me think of psoriasis because it's closer in terms of spelling, but Saraya reminds me of it as well. I don't dislike the name. I just wish that I didn't think of psoriasis at all.

My name is Saraya. I've never once had it linked to Psoriasis. They really don't sound that similar.
I love it, and have had nothing but compliments.
Sariah maybe is a little similar to Psoriasis, but still so much better than McKinley or Tenley or McKiley or Kynzee (all of which I've seen IRL).
Addison, Amelia - two examples of names that are also medical conditions. i could think of more but I'm late so it'll have to wait for later.

How about Malorie? Sounds very similar to Malaria.

Yeah they do... in N. Am'n En. anyway, they sound close... all you do is add a sis to the end... Doesn't mean it wouldn't otherwise be pretty... just that for the medically aware, our first thought when we hear it is liver disease.
Amelia makes me think of Amelia Bidelia though and is therefore not even on my radar...

If going solely on sound with no other associations, I think Soraya would sound the nicest of the 3...
I'm not a big fan of most Mc names as given names either.

maybe if you are using the -rye prn. But my name is -ray, and I think if you was it with -ray in the middle then it doesn't sound anything like it. I can see -rye making you think Psoriasis.

That would def. make some difference... spelling makes it ambiguous though.

It all depends on whether people treat the y as a vowel or a consonant... While y acts like a vowel in SOME languages, in others, it's only a consonant and there are many languages for which a is ALWAYS ah and NEVER ai/ay like in ate, so when it's a language one's not familiar with, one doesn't assume that a-y-vowel will be ay-vowel... it could be a-ya or a-yo... etc... so it's a REALLY easy mistake.

Yeah I think most people use Rye here, because we have so many Spanish speakers.

ok... sorry... still sounds like one the way some people prn. it and makes a person potentially also think of the other.

I like these names. I don't think of psoriasis when I hear them. I really like Soraya. I think it's a bit of a stretch to compare it to psoriasis.

not that big a stretch... 3 syls of a 4 syl word... and to a medically aware person, it's an obvious completion... It otherwise sounds nice though.

I was just thinking about Soraya. I think it's pretty. It doesn't remind me of psoriasis.

I like it and think it's a perfectly nice name. I mean, hey, Arthur sounds like arthritis and Phyllis is at the end of syphilis and Rhea is in diarrhea, but they have other, much better and nicer associations and meanings to focus on. It's not like the kids are actually called Psoriasis.

Wow that is really unfortunate. I think the name Soraya is Arabic, but it still would sound really awkward in an educated, English-speaking place. If I had that name, I would go by something else.

Instead of Mozart, Amadeo reminds me of armadillos. rofl.

Had a guy in 1 of my elementary classes named Armond and his name made me think of that too.
