[Opinions] Chalky?
So since I've been watching "Boardwalk Empire" and old episodes of "Doug" lately (which both have characters named Chalky), this name has been on my mind - it's not a name I necessarily like but I can't find any info on it so I'm rather curious about it. Is it strictly and NN? Where does it come from? Anyone have info?

If Chalky was more than just a MN, I'd guess that the parents were University of Kansas fans. Rock Chalk Jayhawk, anyone?
It's a pretty standard nn for either people with the surname White or for the kind of Mr Chips-ey schoolmaster whose clothes are covered with chalk dust that never seems to get brushed off.
I taught with a real, live maths teacher once whose school nn was Chalky. His actual given name was Paul, so there was a pleasant kind of assonance.

I've only ever heard it as a nickname for someone who's surname is White (because chalk is white). It would appear from Googling that the character in Boardwalk Empire is called Chalky White. He appears to be black so not sure if it's a kind of joke nickname as well, as I've never seen the show.
I suspect with Boardwalk, that Chalky White is a bit of an ironic jab as the show is set in the 1920s and racial slurs run rampant.
Chalky Studebaker (the jock from Doug) is more of an enigma to me.... he's got green skin

I assume it's strictly a nn (at least I hope so), if you like the sound of it Chauncey is a good alternative.
Sounds like a dog name. Maybe it literally means 'Chalky'-look it up in the dictionary..sometimes that works:)
