[Opinions] Asya
What do you think of this? It's a nickname for Anastasiya. Anya has gotten some traction as a stand alone name. Do you think that Asya could do the same? Is it substantial enough? Is the 'ass' sound too prominent? General thoughts?

Looks like someone spelled Asia wrong... Kinda strange.
I prn it Ah-LEE-ah. Alya is AHL-ya.
Because of the popularity of Aaliyah and its variants, I would assume that Alia is another spelling and pronounce the two names the same way (ah-LEE-ah or -yah). On sight, I would pronounce Alya AHL-yah as well.
I wasn't sure if Aaliyah and Alia were related, so I looked them up in the database. They are not on each other's "Related Names" list, but if you compare meanings they obviously must be related. Aaliyah is the feminine form of Aali, meaning "high, lofty, sublime," and Alya means "sky, heaven, loftiness." Alia is a variant transcription of Alya. I assume there is a pronunciation difference between the A and the double A - does anyone who is more familar with Arabic know? What about between "iyah" and "ia" or "ya"?

I say it like "AAL-yuh", with a long A sound at the beginning, but I think some people might say "a-LY-uh", which would be 3 - is that how you say it?
I say it like AH-lee-uh. Although I've also heard it with the accent on the second syllable
At first I read your title and thought this was a creative spelling of Asia. I'm glad to see that isn't so.
Anastasia is beautiful and Asya is fine as a nn for it. But I don't see it standing on its own. It needs context if for no other reason than pronunciation. I know a little girl named Asiyah ("ah-SEE-uh") and I can see Asya getting that pronunciation as well as Asia. Knowing that Asya comes from Anastasia would help to know how to say it.

I like it! It reminds me of Asha and Anya. I think it could stand alone just fine. It's short and nicknamey, but it seems like "-a" nicknames stand alone a lot better than "-ie" nicknames (like Annie, for instance).
I was pronouncing it AHS-ya, so it didn't really sound like ASS when I said it. But I suppose that could be a problema...
