Help[Opinions] Fra
Fra [as in West End actor Fra Fee] intrigued me when I first saw it; it was completely alien. I initially thought it might be just a morpheme name with no particular meaning, but a quick google search revealed that it's probably a just variant of "Friar" (as in the religious title). Anyways, I thought it was a unique name interesting enough to share with the board.
Thoughts? I can't imagine using it myself, but for me it has a kind of strange appeal -- probably because I hadn't seen a male name that looks or sounds anything like it before.

Has no appeal for me whatsoever... Kinda looks a little silly.

It makes me think of the German word Frau, which means wife I think.

I can't help but think of "fro" as in afro, and that "fra" sounds a bit like it would be a slang term for a female fro.
Otherwise I think I'd only like it as a nn. I'd like Francis "Fra"...

I haven't been able to find any reference to a fuller name than Fra, however. (And I completely forgot to mention where I first saw the name in my original post. That's what I get for only two hours of sleep at night).

I'd assume it was an abbreviation of Frater.

I've never heard of Frater as a first name, but I can see that there are some listed on Wikipedia. I wouldn't have thought of it, but I guess that could also be a possibility.

Sorry, should have put that better - I meant Frater as in Brother as in monks. It's often abbreviated to Fra. So Fra. Joseph, or whatever.

Oh, that makes more sense now! I must've read your post the wrong way. Obviously, I have only ever heard them be called Friars. I thought Fra might be in a different language or a lesser-used form of the title. I feel silly now.
