What do you think of Genévrier as a name? Hypothetically speaking if you knew it wouldnt get mixed up with Genevieve would you like the way it sounds and looks? It means Juniper in French.

The pronunciation is more like the US pronunciation of "Genevieve" with a "zhen" sound and not "zhan", sort of like "zhe nee vree ay", here is a link in case that sounds wrong or confusing. www.forvo.com/search/genevrier/

I think it's nice but Im not sure its baby name material.

Hmm, I like the sound of Genévrier, but I think Genièvre is a more common word for Juniper in French. I really like the idea of French nature words as names, though, so I've been combing the French Republican Calendar for ideas! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Republican_Calendar#Days_of_the_year . I don't know if any of these (or Genévrier) are useable, particularly in English, but they sure are fun to think about.

I think it's really pretty looking and sounding! If you can use Juniper, then Juniper in French makes sense too.

I don't think anyone would mix it up with Genevieve unless they weren't paying much attention. Especially if you plan to use this in an English speaking place.

Apparently "Ginevra" is a name, if thats so then theres no reason "Genévrier" cant be one too lol.

Is it male or female? It sounds female to me...

I really like the sound and it's similar to Genevieve which I love, but it doesn't really look like a name to me.

Its not a name, its the french word for Juniper, I was just contemplating on whether or not it would make a good name. It would definitely have to be for a girl but it sounds too made up anyways.

Problem is: This ending in French is strictly masculine so using it on a girl might not make much sense to French speakers.

Thats true, I think it just reminds me too much of Genevieve and Guinevere to see it as a boys name if it was a name...

I was thinking the same thing.

I speak French and when I saw this thread, I immediately assumed it was for a boy.

I speak French but I cant see it being a masculine name I guess because it's not an actual name. Juniper in general is too feminine for me and it reminds me of Genevieve and Guinevere, oh well its a pretty word :)

It is a nice name. you'd have to be a bit daring to use it, but it's do-able.
