[Opinions] Alone?
I was thinking about word names and thought of this, Alone, for a girl. The meaning could be good or bad depending on your point of view, and I think it looks and sounds nice. As my thoughts were building, I thought you could try pronouncing it Alonee, sounding sort of greek. On a boy it would be too fluffy, but for a girl it sounds nice and if you hated it you could call her Ally/Allie/Ali or whatever.WDYT?

If this is not a blatant joke, please tell me you're naming a story character or a sim or something. I was very awkward and had no friends most of my school life. I thought it couldn't get worse. Can you imagine if my parents had named me Alone? You can't just pick a random word out of the dictionary and slap it on a kid. If that was how we name kids, mine would be Isosceles, Fulcrum, Syzygy, and Flapjack.

Isosceles and Fulcrum might be kinda fun as GPs.

Uhm I would say the meaning is pretty bad. No one likes to be alone. Sometimes, sure, but not all of the time. It sounds upsetting. I would hate to have this name.

I would assume hidden tragedy, like a stillborn twin.

No, no, definitely not. It's bad enough that Enola (if you discount the whole Enola
Gay thing) is alone backwards-do you have to use the word itself as a name?!?

Way too depressing. There's Ilona, a form of Helen. It captures some of the sound of "alone" without sounding like a horrible wish for lonely offspring.

It strikes me as odd as a first name. It could work as the name of a character or a screen name, but it wouldn't work well for a person. People would either find it sad or tease her over her name.Alone (a-LO-nee) would just be confusing because people would look at it and pronounce it like the word "alone."Alona would be preferable to Alone, but then, it sounds like "a loner", so I don't know about that one either.

Nay. Sounds depressing.

I think it's horrid, personally. Wouldn't do it. Sounds kinda dorky.

Aloni does sound vaguely Greek. But in English, it's just too depressing. It would feel like the parent giving you the name was cursing you!

There is a Hebrew name Alona, meaning oak tree, that might be nice. But to name her Alone? This is a joke thread, right? Sorry, but I find that naming a child Alone would be unkind. It will not be taken well by anyone, especially a dd.

It sounds like such a sad name. The sound itself is attractive, but it almost seems like a curse-name, like you would want her to be alone. I'm usually not squeamish about using depressing names, but Alone seems so...obvious. It would be a cool name for a character though! Seems really neo-puritan.BUT, this reminds me of the time I was in love with the idea of "Silence" as a girl's name, when I was 16 or so. I thought it was so pretty and mega-deep.

I think this one is too much of a word to be a name, and it has too many melancholy associations for me to consider it on a real person. I do like the sound though. I could see it on a character, like a nymph or something.
Pronouncing it like Greek could work, but everyone who saw it would say it like the word. I'd prefer Lona to Allie/Ally/etc., because it seems to 'fit' the name more.
One of my girl GP's is Abalone. Abalone "Alone" could be kind of cool as well..

I think it has a nice sound to it but because of the fact that it is a word itself and the meaning can be taken badly it shouldn't really be used on a person.

I would prefer Lone (short for names ending in -lone), even if it's on its own. Unless you had some special reason for naming her Alone... but I'd categorize it as an unusable GP or at most a name for a goldfish.
