As far as I know, Wanger is not English but German. You'll find the origin at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=wanger.
This English surname Wanger is a variant of a more common surname Wager, both surnames most concentrated in county Essex and London. The origin of Wanger/Wager is uncertain though. Perhaps it is a name for someone who deals with "wages", a "wager", or perhaps a name for a cartwright, a builder of wagons, a wagoner.
