[Opinions] Alucard
Someone I knew from high school recently gave birth to a son she named Alucard. If you haven't noticed already, that's Dracula spelled backwards. Alucard is also a character on the anime series Hellsing, which was the inspiration for the name choice. So what do you think about Alucard?
Personally, I don't think it's too bad. It's an odd choice, but there's always the nickname Al.

As a fan of the "Hellsing" manga and anime, Alucard has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. It has such a distinguished feel to it! Unfortunately, because the original bearer isn't exactly the best namesake to have, I could never use the name (not even as a middle name). I mean, I could, but I wouldn't want to risk my child possibly being taunted by his peers once they find out that Alucard is actually Dracula spelled backwards. As such... alas, I suppose this name will always remain a guilty pleasure of mine, along with Lucifer. *sigh*
Kudos to your high school friend for having the guts to name her child Alucard, though! Now that the name has been used on a real live person, perhaps that will slowly pave the way to more little Alucards being born. :3

It's a little strange and creepy for my liking. I suppose, he could go by the nn Luca.
I can't actually stop laughing about what's going to happen when the kid hits the stage of saying his name backwards.
LOL. That's funny, because, you're right, every kid does that at some point.
Um, lol.
I knew immediately that it was Dracula spelled backwards. Didn't they use that in, like, Bunnicula, or some kind of dracula-for-kids book, as Dracula's alter-identity?
It definitely goes beyond just Hellsing, in any case. Incredibly silly.

Haha, this is actually one of my good friend's favourite usernames. He hates his real name, so we often just call him "Alu". I secretly really like the name, but that being said, it is completely GP.
Oh great. Now we're naming our children after un-dead blood sucking evil-doers.... Somehow this makes Jaydynn look like the gold ring of names.
TBH though, if you hadn't explained it, I would have thought it was OK. So, the greater of the population may never know and the kid will be fine. I just find it disturbing.

Lol at the Jaydynn comment - although I might have said Jayhdynne. :)
