According to a Dutch namesite, Wietske is a diminutive for old Germanic names Wig (struggle) Widu (forest, woodland) or Widha (wide, far). Can't confirm any of that! - but I do like the sound of it.

My book on old Frisian names confirms this (and lists Witske, Wytske, Wietje, Wieta and Wiete as variants).

Thanks. That makes sense since Dutch names ending in -ke are often diminutives. I'll look into this!
