[Opinions] Adonis!

It is a name that not common and it is nice.
I know only one person with this name. He is in his 40's.

It would never work where I live, because (in the form of Adoons) it's a traditional nickname for a baboon.
I think Adonis is waaay too much to live up to. It's the male equivalent of Aphrodite Beauty-Queen Hotstuff. If Adonis isn't gorgeous and totally buff, it becomes a joke name.
Maybe you'd like Adair?

I... don't like it. Not on a real person.
It sounds a little dorky, and like it has an amazing amount of bullying potential. It's a bit like naming your daughter Aphrodite. It's silly enough even if they do manage to grow up to be spectacularly good looking with chiseled features and hair which... blows in the wind and... stuff... even then it'd be silly and try-hard. If they turn out to be pleasantly average or "have a nice... *cough* personality..?" then around about that lovely awkward puberty stage which is awkward stage in life anyway, then their schoolmates are going to work out the meaning of Adonis, and... oh, that poor kid. I mean, maybe I was a ridiculously bookish kid, but I knew the meaning and figurative meaning of Adonis by the age of thirteen, fourteen, and would have teased any Adonis I came across mercilessly.
No kid should ever have to carry that kind of name baggage. Middle name it? That might be okay. Apart from when it crops up on uni lists and legal forms.
Really, I don't like Don names full stop, and as for Ad- names, I think Adam for one is a-okay. It's not super-common where I am, is falling in popularity here too, and although it's far less interesting than Adonis, I just find it cute.
Of course, if this were for a character, take it and run with it but avoid the purple prose. That is all.

Adonis: Trend on the Rise
Personally, I am not very fond of it.
You say that it is more favorable because it is straying from a current large trend, but in reality the popularity of "-is" and "-us" names (particularly Atticus) is beginning to rise.
That being said, I also cannot help but to furrow my brow at how pretentious, juvenile, and unprofessional it sounds. Regardless, like many names, it would definitely be acceptable and interesting on a character.

I like it. I never really thought about this name until I met a person named Adonis (he's dating someone who llives on my floor at school). I think it's a pretty cool name and it works well in real life without being bland.
Combos: Adonis Roland, Adonis Christophe, Adonis William, Adonis Halldor, Adonis Morgan, Adonis Gideon, Adonis Gabriel, Adonis Lucian, Adonis Odhran, Adonis Morcant, Adonis Guillaume, Adonis Philippus, Adonis Oberon, Adonis Malik, Adonis Othello, Adonis Wolfram, Adonis Beowulf, Adonis Tasman, Adonis Bastien
Nicknames... Adi, Donis, Addy, Ady, Adis, Adon, Don? I don't necessarily like any of the nicknames though.
