[Opinions] Re: Ray or Roy?
in reply to a message by Margaret
Hmmm I've never actually known a Ray. I've seen a couple but I've never gotten to know one. Most Ray characters in TV shows are black or Italian.
I knew two Roy's one was my vice-principal for middle school and high school. He was a nice guy but he was very strict and would roam the halls looking for mis-deeds. I never did any, so him and I never had any problems with each other. I personally liked him and thought he was a nice guy. He was Filipino. The other Roy was a teacher at the same school. He was also the baseketball coach. I didn't know him well since he taught elementary school students. He was white and born in England, so he had a British accent. He seemed like a very nice guy and was almost always smiling. Both were middle aged men, the vice-principal Roy was a bit younger than the teacher Roy.
I have some Raymond's in my family who I don't know. Reimer has been a long held family name and when they came to America from the German / Dutch border Reimer became Raymond. I heard the last Ray in our family had depression problems and was a constant drunk. I never met him. He was the last of the Raymond's since he never had children. If I passed down a family name I'd rather pass down Reimer than Raymond. There were only ever two Raymond's and there were many generations of Reimer's.
Hmmm I personally have a hard time choosing. Ray makes me think of Manta Rays and rays of sunshine. Roy makes me think of a British person saying "Oi!" to get someones attention. Both are a little too short for my tastes. I like Rory better than either of them.
I keep going between them and don't think I can decide.
