WDYT of Baya? I saw it recently and I can't quite decide if I like it. I think it has a good sound too it but I worry about it feeling "made up"....thoughts?

There is a French film, Le nom des gens, whose main character is named Baya Benmahmoud and I completely fell in love with the name after seeing the film!

My first thought was "Maya with a headcold," so I don't care for it.

It isn't my style in the slightest. Someone here recently was posting about Bay, too. I'm just not sure why, but I don't find it attractive... and I do like Maya (My-ah). Maybe it is the way it is pronounced? I'm not sure, but I don't find it attractive.

Well, we all like different things. It would be boring otherwise. I do have to admit I like Bay better than Baya, too.

It definitely feels made-up to me. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing in my books. But what I dislike about it is the "ay". For me, that lumps is in with the ayden, Jayden, Cayden, Hayden, Brayden, Grayden, Vayden crowd. Plus the Hayley, Kayley, Bayley, Brayley crowd. And then there's the Shaylynn, Braylynn, Kaylynn crowd.
Basically, Baya just gets lost in the crowd.

For some weird reason it doesn't bother me. When I see Baya I think of Bay and Fay and not of the whole Aidan, Jayden, Cayden trend. I would also never associate May and Fay with Bayley or Aidan. Not even Bay with Bayley, which is odd :P They just have a completely different feel but maybe that's just me ;)

baya is the Spanish word for berry. Just thought that might be interesting. It has been some time since I've taken Spanish but it should be BAH-ya (almost BY-ah when you say it fast).
However I think it could also be seen as a feminine elaboration of the word name Bay, kind of like someone created Skya a while back. Baía is also the Portuguese word for bay, baia is the Italian one.
I prefer BAY-ah over BAH-ya and BY-ah, though.

It's alright. I prefer the BAY-ah pronunciation over BAH-ya or BY-ah. I love Bay for a girl. I don't think it sounds made up.

I'd assume it's pronounced BIE-a, so it sounds just like the Spanish word vaya. So all I'm thinking now is "vaya con Dios."
If it's pronounced BAY-a, though, I think that's pretty, and has a strong bay color (makes sense) and vibe going on that's really neat.

I think it's pronounced "BAY-uh" not "BY-uh"
