I'm glad you brought this up because I've been crushing on Camille lately. I do prefer the French pronunciation, however, I know there's no way it would be pronounced that way where I'm from (Southeastern US). So what I've thought of is calling her Cami (kah-MEE) which seems like a plausible pronunciation for Camille. Yeah, people would still call her kuh-MEAL, but I could get over that.

I don't think Camille is too common. Of course, I like it very much. I suppose you could go with Camilla or Camelia / Camellia.
