[Opinions] Austyn...
for a girl?
Replies
I don't even like Austin for a boy. It's just not a nice name at all. So I really dont like it for a girl, especially the spelling Austyn.
Nay. I dislike the way it's spelled, and to me Austin is a male name. Changing the i in thy y will not make it any more feminine.
It's a very guilty pleasure of mine. Austin so very cowboy-macho, and Austyn doesn't lose much of that with the Y. I could never use it in real life. It's more or less obsolete in Britain, so if I did use it, all anyone could think of would be Austin Powers.

Why?...
It's just unnecessary, on so many levels- the ubiquitous "y", the hijacking of the masculine name, the trendyness- my gosh, the name is painfully trendy in it's original incarnation, this is just *yawn* so uninspired.

I agree too!
So true. More so, IMHO its just not that great of a name.

I agree.
Randym Ys fail to make male names femynyn in 99% of cases (the exception, for me, is Sydney only--and even Sydney was originally male).
Stick with Austin if you insist on using the name for a girl. But to me Austin's 100% male. I would prefer Augusta (my favourite), Austina, or even Austine or Awstinwen (see Awstin; -wen is sometimes used to feminise Welsh male names, as in Bran and Branwen) for a girl.

That's hilarious. If I wasn't so lazy I'd swipe it and make it my sig.
