[Opinions] Reveille
could it work as a name? Was listening to "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" the other day and it just sort of struck me how much I like the sound of the word. I know a least some people share my GP love for Reverie so I'm wondering what everyone things of Reveille. Thoughts?

Growing up, when my dad wanted to wake us up early in the morning, he would stand in the living room and shout, "Reveille, reveille!" until we got up. Pretty annoying and only one reason why this doesn't work for me as a name, even as a GP. Other reasons: 1. The -lee sound at the end makes me think "adverb" instead of "name," which is strange because I don't get that association with most "traditional" names that end with the same sound. 2. At some point I know a person named Reveille would have to hear someone read it out loud as "Revile."

Reverie > Reveille
Daydream seems like a namier meaning than awake. The bugle sound is too silly as a name reference. "You've got to get up, you've got to get up, you've got to get up in the morning!"
But I sort of like the meaning "awake," and it does have a namey enough sound IMO..
My problem (and I am probably in the minority) is that when it's a name, I'm really strongly inclined to see it as "reh-VAY" along the same lines as Mireille. If it's pronounced "revelly" as a name it seems wrong to me.

My friend's grandmother is named Revalee (REV-ə-lee). :)Reveille does sound nice, but I think a lot of people wouldn't know how to pronounce it. I don't really like how it looks. It doesn't look like a name to me.

there is a blogger (Girl Gone Child) who has a set of twin girls named Boheme and Reverie which is close to Reveille. With Reveille, it can always get shortened to Ellie but the nicknames with Reverie are not so great, they call the girls Bo and Rev. In case you were curious they have 2 other children a boy named Archer and a girl named Fable.

I think it could work. It does have a pretty sound. The more i think of it, the more I like it. However, never overestimate the intelligence of the general public. I see it being mispronounced frequently and I see a Reveille constantly having to spell her name. I have a pretty common name, but you'd be amazed at how often telemarketers would mispronounce it.

It doesn't sound like it, but Reveille looks too much like "revile" for me.

it could work if there was a sibling called Taps:)

I like Reverie, but Reveille is too military for me.

Reveille is too military for me. And the spelling / pronunciation issues would be a headache. Reverie is so much more doable, GP that it is. Now that boogie-woogie hit is stuck in my head. It's a good thing I like it. :-) Hey, what about a girl named Patricia Maxine Laverna, nn Reveille? Too much caffeine this morning, sorry.

I don't really like it. How about the similar sounding Remei 'reh may'?

Reveille actually rhymes with "heavily"
But I do like Remei! That one's new to me so thank you!

It's French, and then it's pronounced re-VAY.

But I don't live in France. I'm not contesting the French pronunciation but in English it rhymes with "heavily" and in America anyone familiar with the word would likely pronounce it like so.

I don't like it, sorry. I'm not a fan of names that are really just words that people thought sounded nice in general, though.
