I always liked Hayley but this is less common and I like the sound. What do you think of Hallie? Is it too strongly tied to actress Halle Berry?
How many girls named Hallie (etc) do you know and how many named HAY-lee (Hayley etc)?
Do you prefer Hallie or Hayley?
How would you spell HAL-ee? I like Hallie but I think I prefer Halley. I like the surname-ish feel of Halley. I also like that Halley has a different meaning (I think woodland clearing) and isn't just a nickname of Harriet. Opinions?

I like Hallie, it's got a friendly sound. I think I prefer it to Hayley. Hayleys are pretty common in the UK but I've never met a Hallie of any spelling.
The astronomer Halley and his comet are usually pronounced like Hayley here (although apparently he pronounced it HALL ee) so that spelling would be confusing. I'd go for Hallie - maybe as an nn for Halina or Halide.

My best friend in middle school was Hallie. She was forever being called Hayley and having to correct people or getting Halle Berry jokes. But besides all that, I love the name and think it's adorable! I like that it's not too common, and it has sort of an old retro feel.

I like Hallie. I think I like Hailey better, but Hallie is cute. I don't think it's too tied to Halle Berry, but I do think she'd get mistaken as a Hailey a lot.
I don't know any Hallies. I have met two Haileys.

I prefer Hayley, pronounced HAY-lee, to Hallie, pronounced HAL-ee. It just looks and sounds prettier to me.
If I did want a HAL-ee, I'd spell it Hallie. I can't think of a better spelling.

I've always thought Hallie was cute, but it's quite nicknamey. I don't mind it on its own, but if I used it I'd want it as a nn for Harriet. I've known a few Hallies, pretty sure that was their full name. I much prefer Hallie to Hayley, and Hallie is the only spelling that looks right to me. I know! It really doesn't. It's like pronouncing Katlynn as KATE-linn or Kateland as KATE-linn (I know a Katlynn and a Kateland who pronounce it like KATE-linn). Weird.
I know a Hallee but she pronounces it HAL-ee. I also know a Hallie (HAL-ee) and a Halle (HAL-ee) who is only a little younger than Halle Berry.

I like Hallie a lot, although I probably would use it as a nickname for Harriet as it feels insubstantial as a full name.
Halley I would pronounce like Hayley, because of the astronomer.
I prefer Hayley (but only that spelling). I'd rather have Hallie (that spelling) over any other spelling of Hayley!

Hmmm I think HAL-ee is definitely the most common pronunciation of his name. I mean people aren't certain from what I've read but most sources say HAL-ee and it is always listed as the first pronunciation. I also went on youtube and there were quite a few clips and they all pronounced it HAL-ee.

I've only seen the early 60s version of "The Parent Trap", by the way, the one in which the twins' names are Sharon and Susan.
That movie has always APPALLED me. It's some sort of light-hearted comedy, in which the parents are portrayed as though they are nice, decent people and good parents, but what they did is APPALLING. They have identical twins, they split up when the twins are toddlers, each takes one twin, they don't tell either twin that she has a twin sister, and neither parent shows the slightest interest in seeing the twin they didn't get custody of until forced to by the twins' switching places. *Who in their right mind would do this?* If my parents did this to me, I'd need years of therapy. But apart from one throwaway line, "I think what you did to us children is terrible", this is not treated as the horrible, highly dysfunctional thing that it is and everything ends happily when the nice, decent, wonderful parents are reunited. Yeesh.

I loved this movie growing up and still do, but I have to agree that the whole premise is ridiculous. Those kids would be scarred for LIFE.

You got it wrong too :P Their names are Lotte and Luise. I read the book in German as a child, my dad is German and I speak the language. I just googled it and in the English version they changed their names to Lisa and Lottie. It is based on a book by Erich Kastner. Their mom's name was Luiselotte in the German version and they separated the names just as they separated the girls. The Hayley Mills movie is based on the book. It was one of my favorites when I was little.
I like Hallie and Annie better, to be honest. They sound more alike than Hayley and Hannah and none of the names are in the spirit of the book anyway, unless their mom was named Sharonsusan or Hayleyhannah.
