[Opinions] Riordan
I was looking at Ismene's post (http://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/4295330) and saw Riordan for the first time. It looks like it has potential to end up on one of my lists. Thoughts? Combos? Nicknames?

I don't know if you know already or if this will affect your opinion of the name, but it is pronounced like REAR-den. I tend to pronounce it slightly more like ree-ah-den, with very slight pronunciation of the r. Anyway, I really like Riordan. Denny or Danny are possible nickname options.

I don't like it because of the prn. Love the meaning and the look of it, but that 'rear' sound puts me off.

Yeah, that's why I tend to pronounce it a little softer with less emphasis on the r.

But most in Scotland would know how it was pronounced and a kid would be teased.

Why would they be teased? Because of the "rear" part? I went to school with a girl who's LN was Riordan and that was never an issure

I looked up how it was pronounced. That's not meant to sound curt, but I'm afraid that it might! Anyways, I am aware of how it is pronounced and I don't mind it.Denny and Danny are cute nicknames!

No worries. I just know that some people who at first like the name are then turned off by its pronunciation. :)

Well of course I like it :) I like the idea of Riordan nn Rory!

I was thinking of Rory as a nn too!

I can see where it might find a niche, being a surname and very Irish. But honestly, I think it's very ugly. That rear sound is enough by itself, but it is so "Look-a-me, see how Irish I can be!"
