[Opinions] How do YOU pronounce Magdalena/Magdalene?
I say it Mag-da-lay-nuh and Mag-da-leen. Is this right? I know when people talk about Mary Magdalene of the Bible, it is said
Mag-da-lyn. Is that the only accepted pronunciation, or is my way right, too?
I ask because Nora Magdalene/Nora Magdalena is my chosen name for my next daughter, and I don't want to be mispronouncing the name!
Thanks!

Magdalena = mahg-da-lay-nuh
Magdalene = mag-da-len or mahg-da-lay-nuhIt's usually a mahg as opposed to a mag (as in rhymes with bag) with me. I usually consider Magdalene to be German above being Biblical, so I just go ahead and pronounce the 'e' at the end (whether an actual German speaker would, I don't know; I'm just going by what I'm used to from what I've learned so far). Back in the days when my mother took me to Catholic church I only ever heard mag-da-len, though, never mag-da-leen.

I say:Magdalena - MAG-da-LAYN-ahMagdalene - MAG-da-leenBut Magdalen without the E, is MAG-da-lin to me. I like this spelling best, it avoids confusion._____________________________________________________________________Elinor
