I like Julien (prefer Julian) and Jasper. Both are names of close friends' babies actually.

My stepbrother is called Julien Barry Jason and doesn't want to be called this anymore. He goes by Sam.
I find this really sad, because Julien is so nice. Maybe I'll name my child that and get him to change his name back ;-)

Jasper is definitely my fave out of the three. Julien (spelt Julien or Julian) i find very girly and I have always disliked the name Tristan and I imagine an effeminate boy.
Jasper however, is different and masculine and really cute on a little boy and great on a teenage boy or an adult. I may be biased though because my boy friend's name is Jasper (Jas, or JC which stands for Jasper Christian).

I prefer Tristan. This has been one of my favorite names since I read Tristan and Isolde many years ago :)

I also like Julian. Jasper, however, is nms. My family had a rather mean cocker spaniel by the name of Jasper so the name is forever ruined for me.

Jasper is my fave out of the three. It's actually my fave boy name. I don't think I've ever met anyone with the name before, which makes me like it even more! Yeah, I'd go with Jasper for sure.

I favor Tristan.

Julien (Julian to me - Julien looks femme to my eyes) isn't quite as masculine. I think it's because of the similarity to Julia - this is only because I was exposed a lot to Julia in my life, and hardly ever to Julian. And it is probably because the Ju- sound is dark and calming to me; not as bright and assertive and masculine as Tristan. Not a bad thing, though. I love the name Julian for a guy!

Pierce Brosnan (formerly a heartthrob of mine, in the 80s! Now he looks eerily like my dad!) played a guy named Julian in The Matador and although the character was overtly straight, he had some effete qualities. I actually thought the name Julian was too butch for that character. So it's not that I think Julian is femmey, not at all. Just less butch than Tristan.

Jasper is one of those names that feels ever so slightly
- country / rugged / cowboyish / rural / theatrically masculine
- playful or childlike; great for a dog or horse, not quite fully dignified for formal adult situations
- soap opera-ish, the sort of name we sighed for when we were 12 year old girls.
These are all only slight impressions that would be highly unlikely to affect my reaction to a real life Jasper, and I do like the name quite a bit anyway. But it's these feelings that make me like it less than the others.

Tristan is one that started being a fave of mine when I was about 17. It's got a slightly effete feel to it for me too, but that's because of the Trist- part sounding like tryst and like triste (sad), and because it was unusual then.

I like Jasper best, because Jasper Fforde is a fantastic, fantastic author. Tristan is too popular, and Julien looks ridiculous. I can't stomach that spelling, for whatever reason; it looks so wussy and sleepy-eyed to me. Julian is far nicer and would tie with Jasper as winner.

I love Julian, prefer this spelling, and Jasper. I also like Tristan, but it's a bit popular and trendy at the moment here. If the Julien spelling stays as is, I guess Jasper gmv.

I love the name Jasper. I was going to name my son that, but didn't. I may still use it someday. Isn't Julien supposed to be spelled Julian? I prefer that spelling, but it isn't a favorite. I really dislike the name Tristan for some reason.

I like Tristan (also for a girl, Tristyn)I don't like Jasper coz I know a few dogs with this name and its also one of the old guys on The Simpsons and Julien seems to feminine to me (although I wouldn't use it for a girl either). :)

If I ever have a son, that's my number one choice. Unless I have a daughter first because my number one choice for a girl is Isolde. And I don't want siblings named Tristan and Isolde. That'd just be weird.

I really think Julien is the best, but it's kinda popular though... I don't like Jasper, I don't know why I just never liked it. And Tristan, I really like on a girl, but on a boy (in english especially) I think it's a little... hum, let's say girly :)
