What are your opinions on Coraline? I'm not usually much of a nickname fan, but I love Cora, and DH vetoed it... I might be able to get him to go for Coraline though. It's never even been on my radar but I think I like it...

I love it, especially when pronounced the French way. But I find Coralie more attractive.

I too think Cora is lovely, so Coraline "Cora" gets my vote. It's not a name you really hear, so I think it would be lovely.

I like Coraline a lot! It makes me think of coral and Cora.
The only problematic thing I see is that people might call her Cory/Cori, which I don't like much...

I hate it. I loathe it. I despise it.

I'm sorry, but it's a pet peeve of mine whenever a name from pop culture gets SO MUCH ATTENTION all of a sudden when no one cared about it before. Coraline, Leia, Eowyn, whatever, it just bugs me. Nothing against the name itself.

It's not a popculture name though

Coraline is a French name and has INSEE data (like French SSI info) going back to 1954

Maybe I'm confused and you mean it gained popularity through a book and film? If so I agree that can be annoying but there seems to be some urban legend that Neil Gaiman created this name which I've never understood.

Is it becoming popular? I don't know of anyone with this name and haven't heard of any friends or friends of friends naming babies this. And... I don't like it because of the movie.

I don't mind Coraline. But I fear it will be confused with Caroline all the time and it would be a headache for your dd.

What about Coralie? It's unique enough to not get confused with Caroline, you get nn Cora and there's just the barest hint of a possibility that dh might even like it.

Coralie is another option.... and I'm not a fan of alternate spellings, but my dad's middle name is Lee... would Coralee be unbearable?

I like it, but it might be confused with Caroline. Then again, Neil Gaiman's Coraline is now well-known, so that helps.

I also like Cora and Coralie.
