[Opinions] Venus
Venus is definitely a GP name for me. WDYT of it? Is it beautiful, interesting or simply bad? Does it remind you of the kind of women's razor called Venus, or (I'm pinning my hopes on this) something else?

There was a death notice in the local newspaper recently: a lady, apparently Jewish, apparently unmarried, apparently a monumentally excellent and dedicated Scrabble player, who died quietly at the age of 96. She was a Venus. I've never seen another reference to a real one, though someone put Venus in a boy GP list the other day.It sounds like a minor character in an old outer-space galactic cowboys-and-crooks kiddies' TV series. At least, that's where I'd have expected to hear it, until the old Scrabble lady got her final mention.

rhymes with.....you know. I don't like it. The sound is just not attractive to me.Also, it makes me think of a venus fly trap, which would actually be a cool reference if I didn't already dislike the sound

My associations are:
1) The goddess of love
2) The planet
3) Mariska Veres (great voice) singing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXCHehlDpgw
4) Venus Williams
5) The 'Mound of Venus' or mons venerisI would probably like it, except for that last one there.

It makes me think of the planet. I am kind of neutral to it.

I knew a Venus as a child and I always found her name odd. Now I'm not sure how I feel. A lot of Greek / Roman mythology names are becoming quite common, I've across a few Apollos & Persephones and Athena is climbing the charts. I think Venus would fit in just fine, even if it's too much for me.

"I'm your Venus""I'm the fire of your desire."That's the first thing that comes to mind.It also sounds like a stage name for a third-rate Vegas lounge singer. Venus LaChance, the French Songbird.

I wish I didn't think of the razor because I feel like it'd be a cute name to see every now and then like Juno and other mythological names but I really can't get the razor commercials out of my mind.

Actually I didn't think of the razor, the first thing I thought of is Venus Williams - the tennis player.
If I try to remove the connotation of tennis, I think the name is strong and beautiful. But then again, I do like names that are associated with the planets and stars - Juno and Luna are two of my favourite names. A pretty name indeed :)
