[Opinions] Ditto
What would you think if you met a baby or a small child named Ditto?I have no particular reason for asking this, aside from the fact that I always thought Ditto sounded like a kooky kids' name. So, male or female? Any combo suggestions? Thanks. :)

There used to be a syndicated cartoon strip which included b/g twins known as Dot and Ditto. That's all I can think of! And, still on the line drawing topic, didn't Schulz give Lucy and Linus a baby brother called Rerun? As you can tell, I don't take it very seriously.

Hi and Lois. It still runs in my Sunday comics.

It's the Pokemon that can clone over 600 species which makes it even kookier.

It kind of does have a cool sound haha :) I've always detested what the word means though, so I naturally dislike it as a name. I'm Irish, and we find it rather cringey when people start using American slang like that here lol. I could also foresee a lot of cringeworthy puns courtesy of their peers for their entire life.

Why would you detest the meaning of ditto if you're Irish. I went to Wiktionary to see if they had a British/ Irish slang definition, but the only definitions were 'me to' or 'same here'.

Actually......the very first thing I thought of when I saw your post was Dorrit. I don't think I could get behind Ditto as a name on its own but, as a nickname, I can see it for either gender, though I'm leaning toward female. It sort of makes sense for anything "Dot" or "Dotty" gets used for.

Maybe as a childish nickname for a boy, but not as a given name.

I would wonder if Ditto was a nickname or I would at least hope so. If not, I would wonder what the parents were thinking. I could see Ditto working as a nickname for an identical twin, but beyond, that I think it's too strange and informal. Aside from thinking of the word in general, I also think of a teacher I had in elementary school who called the copy machine the ditto machine. She also called the copies dittos. I liked her, but the whole ditto machine association makes it that much harder for me to take the name Ditto seriously.Ditto Jane was the first combo that came to mind even though Ditto seems more masculine to me. And a for a boy: Ditto John or Ditto Jude.

I have previously dated someone with this surname who was ... rather wayward, though not unsavory. I find it too non-serious as a first name. This could go in the hipster pile along with Ruby, Nova, and Luna.

Was her first name Beth? ;)

In political circles a "ditto head" is someone who can't think for themselves. They pick a leader and repeat whatever they hear verbatim. No thinking required. It's not a flattering term. But my primary objection to Ditto as a name is it sounds as if the child is an after-thought. It's disrespectful to the child. Even as a nn it seems mean.

I'd think, "What the Hell were the parents on?!" Not only is Ditto a way of saying "yeah, same here" but it's also a pokemon... It'd be a funny nickname, but only a nikcname

Hi and LoisIt's a cartoon in the newspaper. The parents are Hi(ram) and Lois, and the kids are Chip (teen boy), twins Ditto (boy) and Dot (girl) (around 10), and baby Trixie. In real life, probably a nn for Dorothy, but it would still be an odd nn.

Fuck no! Reminds me of the Friends episode when Pheobe said Sitto/Veto to al the names Ross & Ravhel said for baby Emma
