[Opinions] Ikea
In a magazine I bought today, there's a letter from a woman who named her daughter Ikea. Yes, as in the funiture. She's fully aware of the place, and, in fact, was inspired by the shop. She claims that, although it went against her ex-boyfriend's and her mother's wishes, she chose it because it sounded nice. She admits to getting funny looks when she calls her daughter's name.I'll admit, Ikea does sound nice. However, I don't really think that's enough of an excuse if the name you choose is already well known and strongly associated with something in real life. Phonetically, I love the sound of "Lecherous", but it doesn't mean I'm going to bestow it on my first-born.

Ikea actually wouldn't be horrible as a name if it weren't the name of a furniture store. :-/ But at least the kid can go by Kea when she's older and only reveal her "real" name when she absolutely must.

She's not the only one; I've seen several examples of girls named Ikea. There also was a girl born in Utah in 1998 named Duxiana. This is a more obscure store for most Americans, but as it is a very upscale place that sells mattresses I think it is even more humorous than Ikea as a given name. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/020305/bedding-blankets/duxiana-beds-dux-beds-001962

It does sound nice! But she could have atleast changed the spelling! *rolleyes* Something like Ikia? Ikiya? Ikhia? Ikeya? Doesn't look that good either, but still is better than Ikea!

Oh I would NEVER do something like that (although i have a weird naming taste according to some people here :P). I knew a girl once who was named Bibia, after the brand of those black binder things on the back of bicycles, to hold the luggage (I'm sorry, I have no idea what they are called in English and it wasn't in my dictionary)

Peir 1Ikea. She should have just named it Peir One or Purina.
