[Opinions] need help deciding best pronunciation of name.
I've chosen the name Kamalla and recently discovered that in some languages that a double 'LL' can be pronounced like a 'Y'. I am having trouble deciding and was wondering if anyone would care to give me their opinions? Which way do you like better and why? kah-mah-lah or as ka-migh-uh/ka-my-uh? Thanks so much for your help.

when taught in school...In America, teachers tell us to pronounce the double 'L' (ll - ay-yay) as a 'y' sound. We generally taught Spain's version of Spanish (I don't know if this changes anything) but I have a lot of Mexican friends and they pronounce the double 'L' as a 'y' as well ex:llama = ya-mah

I've heard that it can actually be pronounced in a few different ways, like j, a soft g, sh/ch, y, or as an ly, but usually as a y/ee/i sound. Like in tortilla.

I prefer ka-my-uh, because kah-mah-lah makes me think of the Finnish word "kamala", meaning 'horrible, terrible' ;)

If you've only recently found this out, and it's not a part of your own language, I wouldn't suggest using the "y" sound. I'd go with the pronunciation that I already know if I liked them equally instead of randomly adopting one from a language that I have no knowledge of.

the double l is only a 'y' sound in Spanish. Is it a Spanish name? If not, don't use the 'y' sound.
