I did know a girl named Elise. She was a nice, athletic girl. But she was also very serious (which conflicted a few times with my goofy, dorky traits.) So the image usually makes me think of an athlete (not that that's bad.) with a very adult-like sense of responsibility.
1) As for the honoring thing, I think it'd be honoring. It can be a diminutive, so I see nothing wrong with that.
2) Elise. Elsa isn't as cute to me (sorry!)
3) Again, Elise.
4) Depends on what the fn would be. Like Melody Elise (cute combo, btw) isn't bad. But-again, matters on the fn.
