I like Romana and Romy, but I much prefer Ramona, which is one of my favourites. I suppose obvious nicknames would be Mana and Mona, but I don't particulary like either.

I don't really care for Romy, but Romana is a decent name. I like Roma, Romina, and Ramona better, though. Roma also works as a nickname for Romana.

Romana sounds odd to me; if you are sold on Romy, what about Romola?

I like Romola too, but I prefer the Italian pronunciation, which no one seems to be using.

Goodness. What do they use instead??

Rahm, like the German for cream? Well, well. I feel really foreign sometimes.

I think I would prefer Roma or Ro or Rom as a nn for Romana. Romy sounds too flighty as a nn for Romana. It works better for frilly names like Rosemary (for me, anyway). I like Romana, but I love Ramona. As mirfak said, it just sounds earthy... like mud between your toes. It's an acquired taste, but it has a subtle beauty.

Romana sounds rather formidable to me. Romy really militates against that vibe but seems too playful in Romana's case. I prefer Rimona out of the three options, although Romy doesn't suggest itself.

Full name Romanadvoratrelundar... Romana for short.I didn't have to look that up, which is weird for me. Anyway I've liked the name Romana since I was watching Dr Who reruns in high school. And I don't like nn Romy. I honestly hate Romy. It's ick. It's sort of like Demi for Demetria, or Flicka for Felicity. Pings my gag reflex.I like Ramona, too, and that seems earthier than Romana so it's more my style of baby names. But I think the name Romana is more appealing in theory.I don't think Romana really needs a nickname. It's easy to say it quickly and flowily, and it doesn't really sound all that stiff or fancy.
