[Opinions] Dorothy
My SO's paternal grandmother's name was Dorothy. If I were to ever consider it, it would probably be as a mn. I loved the Wizard of Oz growing up,so it's got meaning for me and for my SO. What do you think of Dorothy?
Would you ever use it? FN? MN?
Do you prefer Dorothy or Dorothea?
FN ideas/combo ideas?

I think its nice enough, but rather old fashioned. I also don't particularly like any of the nicknames (Dotty, Dolly etc.). I would therefore probably use it as a middle name only.I prefer Dorothy. But if I was going to use it as a first name, I'd go for Dorothea so I could use the nickname Thea.

I know the mother of twin girls born this year: Melissa Dorothy and Phoebe Edna. Both mns have strong family links.I like Dorothy (also a family name for me) and Dorothea but probably only as mns - that said, I dislike sniffy Melissa and antique Edna (family too, but that's not enough to sway me), and I find the look of Phoebe much nicer than the sound.I think my choice of either Dorothy or Dorothea would depend on how it flowed with the fn and the ln. I have a wonderful association with the name, as my childhood school bus driver was named Dorothy. She was a fantastic lady who went by Dot. I would gladly use Dorothy. I think I slightly prefer Dorothea, just because of the Thea nickname option. I love Dorothy June.

Dorothy is cute, much cuter than a lot of the names that were popular when it was, like Betty and Ruth and Frances. I don't like it near enough to ever want to use it, but I do like it. I'd rather see it for a first name, mainly because I can't think of any first names that would look or sound nice with Dorothy as a middle name.

I'm definitely warming up to Dorothy - it never really appealed to me before. I used to prefer Dorothea, but right now Dorothy sounds spunkier to me. I think I'd be more likely to use it as a middle name.Dorothy Alice
