My stepson is James Frederick; he goes by Jim.

My brother was Garrett James. Our father's middle name also was James, and he got the name because of his Uncle Jim.

So while I think it is a good solid classic, and I have a fondness for it, I have to say also that it is almost too familiar for my taste.

I like it a lot - certainly enough to use. I prefer the full form to Jamie or Jim, but they are OK too.

I know a James Gordon, with Scottish ancestors. Good name.

I like James a lot. It is handsome and a true classic. I know a lot of them though and it is an easy name to overlook or forget about because of that. It is so pedestrian that it doesn't appeal to me as a name for my own child but I don't mind it for someone else's one little bit.

I don't love James, but I think he's quite handsome as a first name. As a middle name, he is as filler-ish as they come.

James is in the middle of one of my top combos also, for me it honours as well as being a really nice name. I wouldn't use it in the first name spot because 1) I still think it's quite popular despite, and 2) James is my cousin's name (hence the honouring). I like James, I think it's strong and classic, not too wild about the potential nicknames of Jim, Jimmy, Jamie etc, but my cousin and many other James's that I know managed to grow up without getting one :)

I do like James a lot, but it sounded a lot fresher 5 years ago to me than it does now. I'd probably not use it for a son anymore; I guess I've fallen out of love a little.

I like James a lot. It's a classic and handsome name, albiet rather common. However, I dislike nicknames like Jim or Jamie. I like just James on it's own.

One of my best friends is called James. We've known each other since we were 6 and he is also good friends with my fiancé. If we ever have a son, he will probably have the middle name James, after him.

James Arthur is lovely, incidentally that's the name (first and last) of the latest winner of the X Factor in the UK.

I love James. It ages well, and it has stood the test of time. You can pair it with lots of other names, and it never loses its classic appeal.
