[Opinions] Atari
Okay, forget that it's a game console for a minute and tell me whether you think this would make a cool name. I'm thinking it sounds more feminine, but it could go either way. Thoughts?

I find it pretty easy to forget the game console, for a minute, in imagination. (Maybe because my whole brain is blurred from having a bad cold.) It would only take one other association - one famous character called Atari, and about 20 years, for it to become a "name." Well ... at least among Americans ... after I looked up how they named the company, I am not sure Japanese people could ever consider it namey. That takes away from the cool factor IMO. But I do agree it has a nice sound, sort of expansive... I think it sounds masculine though. As a feminine name I think it'd seem sort of sharp and stabby, or like ancient Egyptian (I'm thinking of Nefertari).

Having never been acquainted with this game console (the association is only vague with me), I like this name. I envision it as a male name, one that looks like it would orginally come from Africa or Asia.

To me, it sounds unisex turtle. Sorry - I just can't make it work for human use.

if it weren't for the association, I'd like it as a name, but for a boy. I can see it on a girl also but since I already love Aryeh and Atreyu, Atari feels more masculine to me.

All I can think of is the game console. That's all I can imagine-video games, and video-game playing parents who think this is a cool name for their kid. No, I don't think it makes a good name for a human. Maybe a pet.

If I forget it's a game console, it still sounds too sci-fi/fantasy for me.

The game console thing is too much, I'm afraid. Atara or Atarah are pretty and feminine alternatives.

LOL.
Okay, I'm trying.
Yeah, it has a cool sound. Although it sounds a bit more masculine to me. Like Ari. Id say it's definitely unusable on a person, but could make a good pet name. Great pet name even.

I tried, but I can't forget. It doesn't sound masculine or feminine to me...only plastic. How about Atara / Atarah?

Oh, I'm not seriously considering it, but Atara is nice. :)
