Help[Opinions] Whittier
So, I've just discovered my new favorite artist, Harry Whittier Frees. His photos are so kitsch and novel, I freaking love him already. But anyway it got me thinking about Whittier and wondering if it could work as a name. I've loved the NN Whit for a REALLY long time and am always looking for fuller name options. Better as a MN? I'd consider something like John Whittier nn "Whit" also

I love this. I have a number of names on my list that would honor my favorite artists and writers and think it is a nice way to bring personal meaning to a name choice. My good friend is named Whitney and in our group she has always gone by Whit. I think it totally works as a name and will be thought of in that since once people get to know its bearer.

Whittier was the name of one of the cheerleaders in Bring It On Again. I don't like it as a fn, but as a mn, people would assume it's a family name.

Like John Greenleaf Whittier?
As noted in the title, the poet/abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier (Whit-E-A, not whit-e-er) is what first comes to mind. Secondly, the adjective wittier, as in "I have more wit than you; I am wittier than you".
It could work in the middle, but I am afraid that up front, you would have pronunciation issues; furthermore, it comes across as a little bit "I'm far more intellectual than you", sorry.

Lol, I googled him and I cannot imagine being into those photos! But whatever floats your boat. Go for it! The John Whittier "Whit" thing is a pretty common southern pattern, I knew a David Whitsomething "Whit" in middle school. Man was that guy ever a jock. Anyway I think I'd do something like that... Whittier is a pretty funky FN.

It reminds me of the word "wittier", but I think it's still usable. I prefer it as a MN. I do like the nickname Whit, though.

It sounds more like a description of a persons wit, rather than a name. For example, "John is wittier than James".
