[Opinions] Gabriel vs Stewart
My grandfather Stewart passed away recently. And the more I think about it, i'd love to honor him if we should have a son.
Stewart was his given name however there have been records to suggest that his actual legal name was Gabriel (with a different last name).. This makes me wonder which I like better.
Our top boys name is Theodore; so the combinations we are thinking about are:
Theodore Gabriel Stewart (just have both in there)
Theodore Caspian Stewart (one name to honor, one name we like)
Theodore Edward Stewart / Edward Gabriel (Edward and Stewart are both my grandfathers, and the same middle names as my brother)
Theodore Edmund Stewart (Edmund is my husbands grandfather)
Theodore Edgar Stewart (Another Ed name to honor both?)
I don't really like Edgar or Edmund as much as Edward.
What do you think? Also im worried that my grandfather Edward (very much alive) will be disapointed if we use both of grandfathers names (Gabriel Stewart) so im feeling like Edward Stewart would be the nicest thing because he will be the only great-grandfather left.

I like Theodore Gabriel Stewart and Theodore Edmund Stewart the best. Re: your grandfather possibly being disappointed, if you explained to him that you chose Gabriel or Stewart to honor the deceased since he'll never know your ds, do you think that would help alleviate any hurt feelings?

For me, the name I knew my grandfather by, and by which he chose to be known, would feel most honoring of him, so I would go with Stewart over Gabriel but both are handsome names. As far as your combos go, with Theodore being 3 syllables, I prefer the sound/rhythm of the 3-2-2 options over the 3-3-2 ones. If it's important to your husband to honor his grandfather as well, then it seems fair to go with Edmund. I would hope your grandfather Edward would understand you choosing to honor the grandfather you've lost and not be offended, but I suppose if Edmund is living and there's any grandfatherly "competition", that might not fly. Personally, I best like the sound/flow of Theodore Edward Stewart.
