Help[Opinions] Cass for a boy
I have been thinking lately that when I have kids I definitely want their name to honour someone I love. My Papa raised me and he is the most amazing man I have ever met, but his name is Trevor which isnt a name that appeals to me at all.
However, his nickname is Cassanova or Cass for short and I can honestly say that the only time I have ever heard someone call him Trevor is in his academic circles.
So I was thinking, would it be a 'crime' to call a child Cassanova nn Cass, or if not what do you think of Cassian?

I don't think that would be horrible :) Cas (with one s) is very popular right now here in the Netherlands (in the middle of nowhere, I know) so it sounds like a regular name to me. To back it up a little I would give the full name Cassian or maybe Casper? To name a child Casanova would be a little awkward I think!

I think Cass is interesting, but Caspian and Cassian are too over the top and frilly for me. I would probably use Cassidy or Casper to get there (although Cassidy definitely has a strike against it thanks to usage by Kathie Lee).

I love Casanova, the person. He's one of my favourite historical people of all times and I like his name, but I agree that the association is quite too strong. Cassian is wonderful, though. I'd definitely go for that one.

First off, I would like to say that naming a child "Casanova" should not be a crime. A lot of people might not like it, but that's their opinion and that doesn't necessarily mean a child (or an adult when they grow older) would automatically hate the name just because its different, as, obviously, your father can attest to or he obviously wouldn't put up with being nickname "Casanova".
I kind of like the name Casanova, it's kind of sexy to me. Although, if I was going to use the nickname "Cass" I would choose the name Cassidy, simply because of David Cassidy.

It would be a crime to call a child Cassanova (either like that or with the 'correct' spelling Casanova), but Cass is terrific! Cassian always struck me as made up sounding (not sure whether that's true), but Cassius is pretty nice.

Well, seeing asa though Cassie is my name and I'm a girl, I really only like Cass names for girls. :)

I'm not really a girly girl but I don't think Cass is a boy's name not even Cassidy. :P Girly names to me are Elizabeth and Genevieve and boyish girly names to me are Tatum, Raegan and Jayden (and even THOSE aren't boy names to me)

I think Cass for a boy is very nice and refreshing, but I prefer it as a nn.
Cassanova is a definite no-no to me though. Besides being misspelled (properly, it's Casanova--but see below too), it's too prone to teasing imo.
Cassian's pretty. I also like Cassander (the male form of Cassandra) Cassius, and Cassidy for a boy.
There's also the Cas- names, which you could nn Cass too imo: Casimir (though I don't like its meaning), Casper / Caspar, Caspian, and Castor (but then there's castor oil to think of). Some would also include Casey in this group, but I don't because Casey's pr. KAY-see, not KAS-ee.

Cassanova would definitely be a crime, firstly because the child would be bullied/teased every day of his life, and secondly because it's spelled Casanova.
Cassian, Cassius, even Cassander are acceptable full names for the nn Cass.

My husband's boss' name is Samuel Cassian and he goes by Cass. He wears it well I think, he's a big, Italian guy and it suits him. I think that's a great way to honor your Papa, since that is the name he went by I think that's perfecto. :-)
ETA: I think he spells it Cas though.
