They all go by Ginny in the end, don't they? So it's really a matter of her opinion of Ginny. Virginity didn't actually go out with Queen Elizabeth I, but it certainly lacks the moral authority and fragile beauty previously associated with it. And Virginia's a place name too, which doesn't help.
Perhaps she might be willing to use Virginia as a mn if she really likes it?
