[Opinions] Tobin
What are your thoughts on the name Tobin? I've never heard it before this evening when a friend of mine was suggesting potential names for our upcoming baby.

I have mixed feelings about Tobin. On the one hand, I like it, just as I like Tobiah and Tobias. On the other hand, I hear "toe bin," and that comes with some scary, serial killer-type imagery. Like severed toes in a small metal trash can. Because of this, it's not my favorite Tob- name.
Have you ever considered Torin?

I find it really unattractive, sorry. Unless you're saying it different to me, it sounds like toe bin. I like Tobias a lot more because the first syllable isn't emphasised.
I know someone who named her son that. It's ok, but seems a little weird to me somehow. Like it's truncated or something. But it's not bad.
I love Tobias and the nn Toby. I've loved the nn Toby since I was kid, I loved to watch The Great Mouse Detective and the main character had a sweet awesome dog named Toby.
Tobin I love almost as much as Tobias. I'm not very fond of Tobiah, it just sounds weird to me.
I knew a Tobin when I was in high school. He was extremely intelligent and he was of white and Thai heritage. He was my sisters best friends slightly older brother and he was three to two years younger than me. He was in my math class and I was in the math class one above my grade level, so he was 3 to 4 grade levels ahead in math. He was smart but also very good looking. He was the only Tobin I've ever known so I always think of him when I hear the name.

Tobin for me is one of those names I wouldn't use for myself... the sound just isn't for me. However if an acquaintance/friend had a child named Tobin, I would appreciate it for being unique without being overly trendy. I'd like it best with a longer, more traditional middle name. Tobin William, Tobin Oliver, Tobin Christopher, Tobin Zachary...
I can't say I'm a fan of the name but if I heard it irl I wouldn't go "ewww." It's just kind of there. He'd probably be called Toby at some point.
