[Opinions] Evanora
Was just looking as the IMDB page for the upcoming "Oz the Great and Powerful" and noticed this is was the name of Rachel Weisz's character. WDYT? I think it's really pretty but my SO and his sister are named Evan and Nora, respectively, so do you think that makes it unusable for me or a nice way of honoring?

I like it. I like Evanna and the -ora suffix, so Evanora is a good name in my opinion. If you want to inadvertently honor Evan and Nora (or just go ahead and use the name to honor them), go for it! But if you want to use the name without the similarity to Evan-Nora being noticed, I'd stay away.

I think it'd be weird to honor a father and his sister with a kid's name. Just weird. So to me that'd make it unusable for you. It's not so bad as smushes go, it's usable although eccentric. But I'm tempted to pronounce it uh-VAN-ora. Like Evangeline. Which is ugly and funny. Otherwise it reminds me of the word evanescence, and seems like it could be Evan + ora (Evan with a 'feminizing' ending). For me it doesn't have that much appeal.

Looks like Renesme's sister, only even more evanescent! Maybe as a mn for the family reasons you mention, but really not for daily use.

It's been sticking in my mind lately, too. I think it's usable, but you should know why you're using it. Is it really to honor them, or is it because you like a name that happens to have both of their names in it? If you ever consider using it in real life, you should run it past them. Just ask what they think of the name while talking about the film.

Evanora looks lovely but I wonder if it's pronounced EE-vah-nora or eh-vah-nora. Because it looks like Eva and Nora smooshed together. It also sort of looks like Evil Nora or Ever Nora. I think it might be a cool way to honor your Evan and Nora but it does sound a bit too made up.
Evanora sort of reminds me of a girl in a book I read once who was named Noramary and I always thought that was pretty (although I'd go with Nora-Mary or Nora Mary instead). That movie looks quite interesting! I don't know why The Wizard of Oz story seems to be so popular right now though, seems there's been quite a few Oz themed movies, books and musicals made recently.

In the commercials, it sounds like Mila Kunis pronounces it as eh-va-NOR-uh.

I saw this name too and I've been thinking about it since. I actually tried looking up to see if it made an appearance in the original novels so I could incorporate it into a story of my own without blatantly ripping off a newer movie.I really like it. It's my kind of wacky. I think it could be a nice way of honoring but it may be just a liiiiitle weird. Maybe. I guess it depends on your relationship with them.
